Exciting April!

I am delighted to have had two paintings selected for the Folkestone Art Gallery Spring Show. This will be a Group Show open from 31st March until 30th April.

FSTONE ART GALLERY is based in the heart of Folkestone’s Creative Quarter. Exhibiting the work of local artists to further afield, this unique space is spread over two floors. The top floor features small original artworks, prints, ceramics, unique mid century furniture and plants. Downstairs is a more traditional gallery space holding exhibitions with larger original artworks and sculptures.

Besides this amazing opportunity, I shall be holding my annual SOLO Show at The HORSEBRIDGE GALLERY in Whitstable. ‘The Wild Side’ runs from 11th April to 25th. My work will feature my latest paintings which are loose and exciting, focusing on the feelings and emotions evoked by the state of the tide and weathers at various times of day and year.

This gallery is in the heart of Oyster Country, the Oyster Farm is just behind the gallery and at low tide you can see the oyster beds, and men working them. Oysters are a delicacy available in local restaurants

About Ann

Ann Palmer worked as a Public Health doctor for 40 years, before picking up a brush and learning how to paint. Ann is largely self taught, but learned important skills from master classes and short courses at Central St Martins and St Ives Painting School, and by observation, reading and visiting exhibitions.

Ann works in oils using brush and palette knife often producing highly textural work. She is best known for her seascapes, but is now gaining recognition for her modern landscapes.

Ann’s work is inspired by  her experience standing in the seashore and the fields immersing herself in the environment, getting to know the landscape, the colours.  Sketching and plein air painting are an essential part of her process.

When Ann is in the studio her memories play an important part in working up a painting;  the palette knife takes over, carefully placing the colours juxtaposed with each other resulting in a more abstract form of the subject.

Ann’s work is in collections across the UK, Europe and the US;  Ann exhibits in Rochester and Margate and at Art Fairs in the South East.  She is represented by Gabriel Fine Arts in London, Galleria360 in Florence and Sei Arte in Turin

Exhibition in Show Off Gallery June 24-30, 2022

Ann will be exhibiting in the Show Off Pop-Up Gallery at 13 Harbour Street, Whitstable CT5 1AQ from Friday 25th June 11am until Thursday 30th June 5pm 10am to 5pm daily. The Show Off Gallery is located in a beautiful shop front exhibition space in Whitstable’s vibrant artisan area.  The exhibition will showcase my oil paintings both large and small, also prints and cards.

Visit Ann’s Studio

A studio visit is an ideal way to acquaint yourself with Ann’s paintings and how she works. In winter 2021 when we were all locked down because of covid Ann had a garden studio built so she could continue working without the worry of having to go into town; at the time Ann was resident in hte Rochester Nucleus Arts and the Cafe which is part of the complex was closed to the public.

Ann’s garden studio is open by appointment (contact Ann) and can also be seen during Open Studios – Ann’s studio was open to the public with South East Open Studios (June 3-19 2022) and again with Medway Open Studios from July 2-10. These are both annual events so please watch for further anouncements.

Horsebridge Solo Exhibition until 9th May 2022

This exhibition is now in full swing! Lots of interested visitors thank you to everyone! The exhibition continues until Monday 9th May inclusive and comes down on 10th. If you are unable to come, many of the paintings will be hanging in my studio during South East Open Studios from 4th June.

A sample of my paintings will be posted HERE. Do please contact me if you are interested in any.

I shall have cards, prints, framed prints, mugs and a selection of mini oils for those wishing to take home something without paying too much!

News from the Studio – March 2021

As we approach un-lockdown I have exciting news of upcoming exhibitions

Currently (8-31 March) I am included in the Sei Arte virtual exhibition POWERFUL WOMAN https://www.seilarte.it/event

12-26 May I shall be at the Halpern Pop Gallery at 15a High Street, Rochester ME1 1PY – this is a solo exhibition, I shall be there a lot of the time so Pop in of contact me for an appointment (only two visitors at a time; come to the cafe entrance)
